Hello.

I am 55 years old, divorced, and dealing with low self-esteem and social anxiety.

I am new on my journey and would love any advice on either if not both.

Hypnosis as an option?

...See more Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has underwent or considered hypnosis for self-esteem issues? My therapist wants me to create a list of why I'm not happy with myself and/or why I consider myself unattractive. Trying to figure out why I think so low of myself and when it started. I'm having a difficult time with this due to not remembering most of my childhood. My father was an abusive alcoholic until I was 13 years old. I'm guessing I've blocked most or those years.

Lower self-esteem than I thought

...See more Hello, I just started CBT with my therapist and I'm just now realizing how low my self-esteem actually is. I knew I had lower self-esteem than most but not as low as it appears to be. When someone compliments me, I usually crack a joke about that person needing to see an optometrist or get an eye exam. I absolutely hate getting gifts. I've always preferred to give the gifts. A coworker told me has never seen anybody get so upset at getting a gift. I never want any kind of party for my birthday and I am no fan of surprise parties. All signs of very low self-esteem. I never realized the reason I do these things and am ashamed of myself for doing them. I'll be 56 this year. I've missed out on so much. Any tips on boosting self-esteem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

...See more I suffer from low self-esteem. Being 6'-8", I intimidate some people and frighten a few. I can see fear in their eyes. This doesn't happen all of the time. I laughed to myself the first couple of times. I guess it's taken its toll after years of it happening. I'm the nicest guy a person could meet. It's a shame that even in 2025, we still judge a book by its cover.

...See more Hello, My name is Bill, and I am 55 years old. I've always dismissed my symptoms as shyness. Now I am finding out that I suffer from social anxiety. My symptoms have become worse due to 6+ years of isolation due to a separation. I was divorced in March of 2024. This isn't over, it's a do over. I suffer from severe anxiety around women, social gatherings, and gatherings in general. I don't have the best self-esteem. I didn't realize there was help available. I had pretty much accepted my condition. Now I'm eager to learn anything and everything in order to help me live again. I have acquired a therapist and will be starting Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I'm anxious, yet still nervous of what's to come. Thank you and I'm always willing for any advice offered.
