March 8th: A Day of Remembrance, Not Celebration
Women's Issues / by Mya000
Last post
...See more Today is not Women's Day—it is International Women’s Rights Day. This is not a celebration. It is not a day to give flowers or to compliment women on their strength and beauty. It is a day of struggle. 📖 Where Does This Day Come From? March 8th has its roots in workers' and feminist movements of the early 20th century. * In 1908, 15,000 female workers marched in New York, demanding better working conditions, voting rights, and equality. * In 1910, socialist and feminist activist Clara Zetkin proposed the creation of an international day of action for women’s rights. * In 1917, in Russia, a strike led by female textile workers helped spark the February Revolution, ultimately leading to women gaining the right to vote. It was only in 1977 that the United Nations officially recognized March 8th as International Women’s Rights Day. ❌ Why Is This Not a Celebration? Because, according to UN data, approximately 85,000 women were intentionally killed in 2023. That’s an average of around 233 women killed per day, or one woman murdered every 6.25 minutes.  Among them, 60% were murdered by their partner or a family member. That’s around 140 women per day, or one every ten minutes. This is not a day of joy. It is a day of mourning. #March8 #WomensRights #NotACelebration #Feminism

Little Tips for Cultivating a Better Body Image!
Women's Issues / by Mya000
Last post
Friday
...See more Last Saturday during our Women's Circle, we shared powerful conversations about body image and self-love. We discussed how challenging it can be to break free from societal pressures and unrealistic standards. I wanted to share a few tips that can help us on this journey toward body acceptance. 👏 Celebrate What Your Body Can Do: Instead of just focusing on how your body looks, celebrate what it enables you to do. Whether it’s dancing, feeling the warmth of the sun on your face, or simply moving through your day with strength, your body is a powerful vessel for experiences that go way beyond appearance. 🗣️ Practice Positive Self-Talk: When negative thoughts about your body arise, try replacing them with affirmations like “I deserve to feel good about myself, just as I am.” This practice helps shift your mindset toward compassion, acceptance, and respect. Treat yourself the way you would treat a loved one—with kindness and understanding. 📲 Challenge Unrealistic Standards: It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to edited images we see in the media, but remember, those images are not real. One thing that can help is curating your social media feed with accounts that prioritize authenticity—surround yourself with content that uplifts. 🧘‍♀️ Nourish and Care for Yourself: Focus on well-being through holistic practices. Nourish your body with foods that make you feel good, and engage in activities you love—not out of obligation, but because they bring you joy. Self-care isn’t about perfection; it’s about honoring your body and mind. 💕 Seek and Offer Support: Join a supportive community (like this one!) that encourages you through the ups and downs. Let’s lift each other up and create spaces where we can share our journeys. Let’s continue to support each other and nurture a healthier, more loving relationship with ourselves!

Age Isn't Just a Number: The Gendered Dynamics of Age-Gap Relationships
Women's Issues / by Mya000
Last post
February 28th
...See more Age-gap relationships are often normalized and romanticized, but the reality is far from the fairytale society tries to sell us. These relationships don’t exist in a vacuum—they exist in a patriarchal system where older men hold more power, and younger women are socialized to accept less. The normalization of large age gaps isn’t just about personal preference, it’s about gendered power imbalances that put women at risk.   Statistical data highlights the commonality of this pattern. Globally, men are, on average, 4.2 years older than their female partners. In the United States, approximately 68% of married men are older than their wives.   This pattern is directly linked to the sexualization of female youth. Society conditions men to view younger women as more "desirable" while discouraging women from embracing their age and independence. Young women are taught to equate their worth with how attractive they are to older men, while men are encouraged to pursue younger women as a status symbol. This dynamic isn’t about love—it’s about power and control.   Research shows that relationships with significant age differences are more likely to involve control, coercion, and emotional abuse. The older partner—usually a man—has more life experience, financial stability, and social power, making it easier to manipulate and dominate the younger partner—usually a woman. This is an extension of how sexism operates in intimate relationships.   Women are told that dating older men is a sign of maturity, while men dating younger women are praised for their "charm." This double standard is rooted in male entitlement—a system that encourages men to seek women they can control while discouraging women from valuing their own autonomy and boundaries.   Studies show that age-gap relationships have worse long-term outcomes for women. Women in these relationships report higher rates of financial dependence and psychological distress compared to those with partners closer in age. This is not a coincidence—it’s a direct consequence of power imbalances that make it harder for women to assert themselves.   It’s time to challenge the normalization of predatory dynamics.  True love is built on equality, mutual respect, and shared life experience—not on a power imbalance that favors men at women’s expense.

A Simple Yet Powerful Yoga Pose for Anxiety
Anxiety Support / by Mya000
Last post
January 7th
...See more Hi everyone, I wanted to share a helpful yoga pose for those of us dealing with anxiety: Balasana, or Child's Pose. It's a gentle and calming posture that can help reduce stress and bring a sense of peace. How to do Balasana: * Start by kneeling on the floor with your knees apart and your big toes touching behind you. * Slowly lower your torso toward the floor, bringing your forehead to the mat or a cushion. * Stretch your arms forward on the mat, or rest them alongside your body if that feels better. * Breathe deeply and relax into the pose, letting go of any tension with each breath. Benefits of Balasana: * Calms the mind: It’s a great way to quiet the mind and release built-up stress. * Relieves tension: Helps to release tension in the back, neck, and shoulders, which is especially beneficial when anxiety leads to physical tightness. * Promotes relaxation: The gentle forward fold stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, encouraging relaxation. * Improves focus: It helps ground you in the present moment, which is so important when managing anxiety. Important Notes: * Pregnant women and individuals with knee joint pain or heart conditions should avoid this pose or consult a doctor before trying it. * It’s important to listen to your body and modify the pose if necessary. I find that incorporating poses like this into my routine can really help soothe my nerves when anxiety feels overwhelming. Have any of you tried Balasana before? How did it make you feel? Take care, Mya
