I found that loving myself was a route to letting go of guilt.

Recognising that I was unique, and thus special, led me to value what had gone into forming the uniqueness that was me. This meant that all of my past was important. Including the bits I might have regretted.

At a late age, I am beginning to love who I am, take care of myself and be the person I am.

I love your way of loving you

I am learning to not apologize for things I did not do wrong or caused a situation. I am learning who I am not who anyone wants me to be

Yes! These are two great things that I work on as well.

For me, they are both about believing in ourselves. The first is about believing that we are inherently doing our best, and thus not to blame for everything. And the second is about believing in the person we know ourselves to be, not what others tell us we should be.

Keep believing in you.

Thank you for making these posts.

@pamharley003 I have a lot of guilt, I don't know if I'll ever get passed it🙁 trigger warning, abuse,  death....i watched the bad people kill my son, he was just a baby and I was only 11 and we were slaves😥 I don't know if there was anything I could of done, but I should have done something🙁 I will never forgive myself. Also I should go back and try to help others in the same situation, but I'm under government protection, and disabled, there is very limited things I can do, guilt eats you up from the inside😥😥😥

I agree some regret and guilt sometimes can not be healed depending on the situation

Tiny, I am so sorry that happened and that you had to witness it. Sending you strength, comfort and as many huge hugs as you need! ( if hugs are ok) ð©µð©µð©µð©µð©µð©µ

@Tinywhisper11

Im sorry you went through that. That was most unfair. You didn't deserve any of that. I would love to give you a hug.

You help those others by being a witness to their situation.

Unnecessary guilt /shame is one of things I am working on right now.  I ask myself, “ did I do “X” on purpose?” “Did I know “X” would happen?” “was this harmful behavior/ way of thinking learned in my childhood?”.

That kind of thing, normaly shows either I did know / wasn’t aware of something that would have changed my words or actions, or it was a thought process/ learned behavior from a toxic childhood.

From here I try to tell myself it’s not my fault. “ I grew up thinking / doing XYZ, but know I can think for self & correct my harmful / unhealthy behaviors.

Could have, would have, should have….thoughts of guilt. Thoughts are blunt instruments against the fog of history. It’s not solid. Still we swing our axe of guilt at it as if it were. And inevitably we hit ourselves with the weapon. Drop your would have, could have, should have weapon. It’s not doing you any good.

What are some ways you try to get over regret or guilt? Self-talk, realizing that I did the best I could at that time.

What is one way regret or guilt has made you feel?  Usually, I do not get caught up in regret because things happen, and I can't change it anymore. The only thing I can do is let go and learn from it. Guilt is different, I can tell myself for a long time "How could you have said or done that?!" Then again, I tell myself that I am not perfect and can apologize for something I did or said and try to be more conscious the next time. Guilt can make me feel ashamed of not having stuck to my values.
