Do you have issues with your finances? Do you tend to overspend?

Or impulsively buy something you didnt’t really need?

Perhaps what you bought is part of your newest hyper fixation or hobby, these are things we have all experienced.

On average we are probably spending anywhere from 1000-1500 US annually on things, events, hobbies,  that we eventually lose interest in or forget to attend.

Currently life is expensive and it doesn’t matter where you live.

So how can we manage our money better when we have ADHD? It’s a simple hack, you make spending jars.

You have one for bills, groceries, subscriptions, fun and outings, hyper fixation and savings.

But now your organized and are placing things in order from most important to least. Then you calculate your monthly budget, what monies you are bringing in monthly versus how much money needs to go out to cover your expenses? Whatever is left over can be allocated to fun and outings, savings or your hyper fixation.

Place the money that is needed in each jar that way you aren’t tempted to frivolously or impulsively spend the next time you are out and about.

You can even utilize technology and download a budgeting app so that your budget is at your fingertips always. Getting organized can seem daunting but I promise you will feel more in control of your life and who knows maybe it will allow you to take that vacation you have been dreaming about. “Hello Greece”. 😊

@aCalmOasis Spending jars sounds like a smart, simple hack for managing money like giving our money a little structure, especially when ADHD makes it easy to lose track.

And who knows? That dream trip to Greece could be just a few jars away!😉😄

I can spend a lot of time looking for deals but I’m getting better at not always checking out. Still a big time waster tho

Yesss I love these types of organisation x I can only keep track of my spending if I allocate it in cash where I can SEE how much I have left - if I have a credit card to use it doesn’t click that it’s Real Money and I’m spending 😅

I agree, there is something about seeing the physical cash that makes a huge difference when you are tracking your money. I think that is why credit cards are pretty dangerous, because it is essentially digital money your spending. It doesn't tangibly exist, it's just ones and zeros on a screen. Sure it may be more convenient than carrying around wads of money, but it has also been instrumental in getting people into debt. It's an illusory system of transacting.

@aCalmOasis yes these are really good tips! Thank you for sharing I definitely need to try save and spend less 😅 I have gotten better recently but still spend too much time researching and wanting to buy things aha. At least I hit checkout less than before :)
