Airborne microbiota in Portuguese Primary Health Care Centers
In order to assess the airborne microbiota in Portuguese primary health care centers (PHCC), a study was performed in two PHCC. A multi-approach sampling protocol was used, including passive and active sampling methods.
The sampled areas in both PHCC were evaluated for total aerobic mesophilic bacteria and fungal contamination. Both locations had higher bacterial pathogen concentrations than the surrounding areas. Urban PHCC presented a higher concentration than Rural PHCC.
In both locations, the gram-positive rods, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aeruginosa, were identified at a lower frequency. Fungal contamination was also a common feature, with Penicillium sp. and Cladosporium spp. being the most prevalent species.
Gram-negative rods, such as Enterobacter cloacae and cowanii, were found in smaller amounts. They have natural resistance to antibiotics. It is therefore important to determine their presence to identify resistant strains and prevent their spread.
Advanced primary care minimizes obstacles to health
The main premise of advanced primary care is to deliver comprehensive and affordable medical care to a broad range of patients. To do this the medical community has to rethink the traditional medical model in favor of a comprehensive, standardized approach. Basically, advanced primary care providers are the central points of contact for all medical care a patient may require. They manage all aspects of a patient’s health and provide a complete range of medical services under one roof.
Advanced primary care may also mean a reduction in overall health costs. A recent survey in the UK found that the most cost effective approach to delivering health care has been to shift resources from providing more costly specialty and surgical services to reducing hospital readmissions, improving health outcomes and ensuring access to essential medicines and equipment.
Staffing pressures at health care centers
The health care industry is continually evolving. One of the biggest challenges faced by facility administrators is staffing to provide safe, effective and therapeutic patient care. This is where a staffing plan comes in handy. For instance, partnering with a qualified health care staffing agency can alleviate your short-term staffing needs and ensure you have the qualified professionals required to get the job done.
An effective staffing plan will also require a little legwork. To get a handle on your organization’s strengths and weaknesses, a comprehensive staffing survey is a good start. It should not only cover the usual suspects, but should also examine the patient population, the type of services offered, and any other relevant factors.
Preventive care helps reduce the chance of developing a serious condition
Getting preventive care can prevent many serious illnesses. It can also lead to better health and lower health care costs. For instance, it can help patients reduce their chances of developing diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension.
It can also save people from experiencing disabilities. In fact, one study found that a high quality of preventive care can delay the onset of a disease.
Aside from reducing costs, getting preventive care can help improve the life expectancy of patients. Some preventive health screenings can even increase the lifespan of adults between the ages of 30 and 49.
Preventive care is often covered by health insurance
Hospitals provide reactive treatment rather than preventative treatment
Getting treated in an emergency room is not for the faint of heart. Fortunately, there are now more affordable alternatives such as hospital based primary care and the advent of the telehealth ad hoc network. The aforementioned model boasts a hefty hospital footprint which is complemented by an eponymous mobile health unit. As a result, patients undergoing treatment for any condition have to juggle a busy schedule. To wit, half of rehospitalized patients had no evidence of an outpatient follow up visit between admissions. So if a single day of care is all you’re after, there is a kink in your game plan. Luckily, the best nurses are on hand to help navigate this minefield.
